The Disconnect That Needs to Be Discussed

I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and my vision. I’m Jana, CEO & Founder of Jana Works, LLC. I created this company to bridge the gap between Entrepreneur & Virtual Support (VS).

I was given a unique opportunity when I first got involved in this online world of business. An opportunity that allowed me to get in front of Entrepreneurs on a daily basis. This expanded my network and blew my mind. I listened to the stories of success and more often than not, the stories of struggle.

I found one common trend among both the successful and the struggling entrepreneurs and virtual support specialists. There is a major disconnect, a lack of knowledge on both sides of the client/VS equation. As Entrepreneurs, you often struggle with identifying what kind of support you need along with how to delegate tasks in an effective way. And on the opposite side of the coin, Virtual Support specialists often struggle with how to effectively support you and bringing your vision to life.

That’s where I come in. My goal is to help both Entrepreneurs and Virtual Support find that common ground. You both need each other! You are natural business powerhouses. There just has to be some understanding that needs to take place before that relationship can blossom.Let’s start with Entrepreneurs...

The best way to execute this is by being incredibly honest with yourself, start with identifying your business goals, your needs, where you’re spending a majority of your time and of course, your budget.

The idea of a remote team is one that has changed the way we work around the world. Both the Entrepreneur & VS can work on their own terms, having a mutual understanding that the work will get completed within the set parameters established in the contract. You lose some of that overwhelm that has been gnawing at you and gain a team member that can help you move your vision forward.

For business owners who are so used to doing it all on their own, sometimes it’s hard to release control and delegate time-consuming tasks. Here’s the hard truth, you are wasting your own money. When you think about it from a logistical standpoint, the busy task that you’re struggling with isn’t worth your time. Shouldn’t you be focused on the bigger vision? Instead, you’re spending time on tasks that VS’s are skilled to do in a more efficient way.

Now onto the Virtual Support Specialists…

You want to please your client, but you’re unsure of how to do that. My advice? Tell them what they need to hear.

I know you’re thinking, “But Jana! They are paying me! I don’t want to tell them what to do!”

That’s exactly what you need to do. An Entrepreneur came to you for help. That means they recognize that they don’t have all the skills necessary to complete a task efficiently (or properly, sometimes).

You are the EXPERT here. Walk them through your strategy to get them to where they want to be. Your role in their business is one of support, yes, but sometimes support looks like bolstering a weak area even when someone doesn’t know it’s weak. Maybe you see a hole in their social media plan that they aren’t even aware of. Perhaps you have noticed a piece of their website that isn’t laid out optimally. Speak up! The Entrepreneur will 9 times out of 10 be so thankful that you took a vested interest in their business.

There is still a long way to go before Entrepreneurs and Virtual Support specialists are 100% on the same page, but through some hard work and a little bit more communication, I’m confident we can get there.

Together, let’s set some new standards. At the end of the day, we chose this path for a reason. Now it’s time to build on your strengths and hire out for your weaknesses.
